I am a physicist. More exactly, I am a theoretical physicist. People often wonder what a theoretical physicist does. You might not believe it, but most of the time I think. Sometimes, I scribble funny looking things with a pencil on a notebook. Processes like this usually involve lots of coffee and walking up and down the corridor.

I started my life as a physicist in condensed matter physics, with my masters thesis about the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition on the torus. Since then, I have been working in scientific publishing, and in parallel, did research for my Ph.D., switching field to heavy ion physics. I used a quark molecular dynamics code to model hadronisation in heavy ion collisions. You can find out more about this on my old homepage. In my spare time, when not thinking about pieces for the blog I do not write down in the end, I enjoy to plunge in my small personal library and read about physics and the history of science. I am the proud husband of Sabine. As long as both of us cannot share an apartment, we are happy to share this blog, at least.
