I have been educated that this festival derives its name from Leonard Cohen’s song “Anthem” which features the lines
“Ring the bells that still can ringIf you have read my book, the crack metaphor may ring a bell. If you haven’t, you should.
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.”
October 3rd I’m in NYC, October 4th I’m in Richmond, Kentucky, and the second week of October I am at the International Book Fair in Frankfurt.
In case our paths cross, please say “Hi” – I’m always happy to meet readers irl.
We welcome you back to the New World, and apologize for not having done better.
ReplyDeletePhysics is robust within itself. However, physics likely can be falsified within its own rules by modest effort and small cost, by other sciences that think with different postulates. An emperor is not irl clothed by peer vote.
Rigorously derived theory remains valid until it is empirically falsified outside itself. Theory is inerrant! Theory says so, and theory is inerrant.
Yeah, I remember first hearing Cohen singing Anthem. That line about light getting in hit me like a hammer (which was dodgy, as I was driving to work :-)).
ReplyDeleteDr. Hossenfelder:
ReplyDeleteAre you speaking in Richmond KY?
I'm just discovering Leonard Cohen recently. Anthem is definitely a keeper. It's on my playlist now.
ReplyDeleteIt's a long list ...

one problem is immanent. You are paid only two years, all over not only physics. You turn the wheel painted in new colors, publishing what you are kowing too good. Outcome nothing new. We all doing it.
