Posts per Second

As to April 2007, Technorati counted 17 posts per second on blogs they track. The plot below shows the number of tracked blogs from March 2003 on.

By April 2007, they counted about 70 million weblogs, and 120,000 new weblogs each day. The statistic below shows the number of daily posts between Aug 2004 and Feb 2007

  1. Interesting plot, the first one. Just from looking, there seems to be exponential growth in the early years, but there also seems to be an inflection point somewhere around the end of 2006.

    Maybe one could fit a tanh to the curve?

    One then could boldly predict that the number of blogs will saturate at about 150 million by 2010 ;-)

  2. As long as the number of internet users and population in general keeps growing I don't think it will saturate any time soon. It's more likely actually that it starts dropping if some other form of personal website becomes fashionable. Best,
