Hypocritical

hypocritical - professing feelings or virtues one does not have

Having been taught by Bert Schroer about the importance of irony and sarcasm in particle physics, I'd like to try an application of my newly won insights: Here is a rare case of an opportunity to learn from a world leader: George W. Bush and The Power of Words:

What I learn from this is that we should be wise and stop talking about whether or not we are looking for a 'Theory of Everything' by scanning over a whole landscape. Instead, we should bridge the increasing gaps in our community and rename our combined efforts into:

Theory of Everything Related Program Activities

God bless America.

PS: Nov 11th, at 11:11 am is the official begin of the Carnival Season in Germany.

  1. you are doing an excellent job in showing to Americans how we Europeans can disagree in a peaceful and constructive way, and that politically correct discussions in lawyer style is a boring way of doing physics.

By the way, I said the same to Lubos Motl a few years ago.

  2. Hi Anonymous,

I had a teacher who told me I should become a lawyer. I knew it would be a disaster ;-) I hope I don't leave the impression that PI stands for polically incorrect. Best,

  3. I apologize but the video about Bush is a rather disgusting pile of lies, negative sentiments, and semi-truths at the level of communist propaganda. What's exactly constructive and peaceful about posting this kind of garbage on the Internet?

I guess the video wasn't made in Europe. Europe may be missing some of the best things found in America only, but it also seems to avoid most of the worst garbage that is sometimes associated with America, too.

  4. Hi Lubos,

I would also guess the video wasn't made in Europe. Imo the commentary is very annoying, and apparently made for the completely brain-dead. It's very close to adding audience laughter. It would have been sufficient to put together GWB's statements.

Besides this, as so often, I don't know what your problem is. I thought Anonymous' comment above referred not to GWB but to my discussion with Bert Schroer... which didn't exactly leave me feeling neither very peaceful nor esp. European.

    Best,

  5. It is not unusual for men to lie
or even believe their own lies.

Only fools believe others cannot see through their lies & falsehood.
Only Presidential fools would expect others to believe their lies & falsehoods, because they are the President.

Only greater fools believe presidential lies & falsehood.
Yep, tuberculosis (TB) Tony Blair, that includes you. So much promise of creating a better world and selling your soul for a key to the Whitehouse executive 'latrine' only to get bogged down in Iraq

  6. On a totally different note to this iraq-related mourning, I think experimental physicists should visit the webster's for
    the definition of simulation:

    simulation:
    1) The act of simulating. Pretense, feigning.
    2) A simulated resemblance.
    3) An imitation or counterfeit
    4) the use of a computer to calculate, by means of extrapolation, the effect of a given physical process

    I think it is illuminating ;) ...
I had it on a slide at a talk last year. I'm off to write a post about it, actually
    Cheers,
    T.

  7. As long as we are into lies, semitruths and negative sentiments:

  8. Hi Bee, I appreciate your sense of humor. The Bush video is one of those Comedy Channel creations that can't be taken too seriously, but I don't find it offensive. I've been catching a lot of crap lately so I probably shouldn't talk so much ;-), but I find Bert Schroer's attitude quite distasteful and irresponsible for someone of his supposed stature. Of course, I know nothing about him, really, or any of this other stuff, and I would be much happier if I would just think about cute little kittens. ;-)

  9. Hi survivor,

Speaking of simulations: this reminds me I talked to a journalist some years ago about LHC predictions and so on. To avoid the term 'event generation', I settled on 'simulation'. It was a complete disaster as the women had absolutely no idea what I meant, and actually asked whether she could come and see how I make a black hole :-)

  10. There is a nation in this world whose arrogance, whose indestructible belief in its own moral superiority, and whose inability to appreciate views beyond those of its own people is truly offensive and dangerous. It's time something was done to counter them. Yes, it's time something was done about the Germans!

  11. Dear Anonymous,

There is a nation in this world whose arrogance, whose indestructible belief in its own moral superiority, and whose inability to appreciate views beyond those of its own people is truly offensive and dangerous. Well, I wouldn't have gone so far to compare GWB to Hitler. GWBs rhetorical skills are definitely superior. No, we just have the sad case of an easily to influence nation with a leader who only has the best intentions: He wants to bring the blessings of his own country to other parts of the world, convinced of the fact that the constitution of his own country is the best possible. It is unfortunate, but unavoidable, if that causes temporarily pain for those involved, but time will come when everybody will appreciate the heroism and the vision to work towards a new world order.

Besides this, you have some problems with the grammatically correct use of time, it suddenly changes in the middle of your writing. Best,

    B.

  12. Ouch, Bee, that was a brilliant reply. Your teacher was right, you should have become a lawyer. You have a talent for twisting words.
