Logical Song

      "When I was young,
It seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.

And all the birds in the trees,
Well they'd be singing so happily,
      Joyfully, playfully watching me.

But then they send me away
To teach me how to be sensible,
      Logical, responsible, practical.

And they showed me a world
Where I could be so dependable,
      Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

      There are times
      When all the world's asleep,
      The questions run too deep
      For such a simple man.

      Won't you please,
Please tell me what we've learned
      I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am."

  1. Wow, serendipity, the moment I decided to follow a link from Cosmic Variance to this site, Logical Song came on the classic rock station to which I'm listening. Meaningless but interesting...

  2. But please tell me who I am.

What stays God's hand from dispensing infinite wrath and destruction at the failure of His creation? He cannot bear to destroy a mere ten beings unknowingly worthy of persistence. You are the person you must be when it is your turn to help carry the universe.

  3. "please tell me who I am"

You are a person who has been sent to University, and are struggling to find your dreams?

At least that is what I recall when I first heard the Supertramp Album 'Breakfast In America'?

"Now what watch what you say aor they'll be calling you a radical, liberal, fanatical, criminal"

My guess is that, in answer to the question?..I presume you are a Liberal?..or : Child of Vision maybe?

The last track of the album, and of course the one that Americans most detest?

The inspiration of the logical song was an earlier track of Supertramps called :School, from the album Crime Of The Century.

School: I can see you in the morning when you go to school.

Dont forget your books, you know you've got to learn the golden rule.

Teacher tells you stop your play and get on with your work.

And be like Lohnnie-too-good,well don't you know he never shirks-he's coming along!

  4. Yep, "Dreamer" another good Supertramp song - and what about "Crisis What Crisis"

Bee, don't forget we are working with models smashing atoms and electrons to find and create new particles in quark gluon plasma. But that is still not the beginning.
Where did the quark gluon plasma come from >>> from the great big accelerator or collider in the sky. Then Space & Time must have already existed before spacetime. So let your hair down, and dance
    Dance the Night Away.
    Have a nice weekend!

  5. Hi Quasar,

thanks :-) I am on my way to the airport... again. Back to Santa Barbara.

Not sure it makes very much sense to say space and time existed before spacetime. I keep thinking the universe started up Euclidean, but lost a minus sign somewhere. I guess, then you'd have to say in some regions of the universe we have the illusion of evolution. Or an order parameter which we call time.

    Time is a funny thing.

Speaking of which, gotta catch my flight. Back to blogging next week. Have a nice weekend,

    B.

  6. Hi Paul,

all the politics around the actual research sometimes make me very very tired. It's hard not to loose your dreams, and not to forget who you are, or want to be.

Maybe I have just been moving too often. Signed the new lease yesterday.

I don't even know the whole Supertramp album. Maybe I should listen to it some time.

    Best wishes,

    B.

I am afraid my chiropractor wouldn't approve...

  8. When I was a sixteen year old highschool kid in Santa Barbara, and the cool kids were listening to other stuff, I was listening to Supertramp. Thanks for the memory.

  9. "please tell me who I am."

To your senses you are unique.

In the ultimate reality, all is the same and one.

If there is an ultimate reality.

  10. The most memorable thing about supertramp was their exceptional and quite irredeemable lack of physical attractiveness, which no amount of anti-intellectual hippy claptrap could obscure. Emerson, Lake and Palmer, however, could get away with the most preposterous lyrical content and still tickle a girl's fancy.
