There's something seriously wrong with Blogger's comment feature. The problem is not restricted to this blog and has already been reported by many others on the help pages. As you will notice, the recent comments features doesn't work, and in fact new comments don't appear - including my own. There is nothing I can do about it. I do receive your submitted comments by email, but I don't know when they will appear. I'll let you know when the problem has been resolved.
PS: Here is the forum thread where you can report your problem.
Update, July 6, 6:20 pm CET: Comments seem to be working again... At least partly. The comment count still doesn't work.
Update, July 7, 7:00 am CET: All is working again.
Hi Bee,
ReplyDeleteThis doesn’t surprise me with all the spam attacks that have taken place with blogger as of late or perhaps it was the article you posted in regard to magic that has cast a spell over it. I wonder if blogger will have to resort to trying your egg remedy to get rid of their headaches:-)
Best,
Phil
I had to submit my own stuff 4 times on my own blog today. I finally had to eXit out before it would stick.
ReplyDeleteAl Queda? Darth Motl ?(He's up to his old tricks attacking you today, reserving the nastiest stuff for Lee. I'm come to the conclusion that he's not happy unless he's making someone else miserable.)
Lubos is a brilliant, haunted, frustrated man. String theory is a mathematically elegant masterwork that has no empirical significance for gravitation. Worse, Uncle Al's proposed experiment in existing apparatus using commercial materials and validated procols could kill it. Do left and right shoes vacuum free fall identically?

Somebody should look. The worst it can do is succeed.
If 30 years of string theory created by the most esoteric physics minds are falsified by an organic chemist and quartz crystals in a 90-day bench experiment - doesn't that reveal them all as having been right proper asses?
Lubos is a perfectly reasonable conversationist. Either agree with him or pin him in the killing jar. Lubos attacks sloppy thought. Re Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory.
Hi Bee,
ReplyDeleteSo the comment counter still isn’t working, now if I was the type that believed in magic I would think it might have something to do with you debunking it. I wonder if anyone has a spell for curing a blog server :-) Oh by the way would anyone know what the best good luck charm one could wear to assure Germany winning the match today. I really would like to see the final as being Dutchland vs Deutschland.
Best,
Phil

ReplyDeleteSteven, please, it pains me considerably Lubos is using my papers to insult Lee, that's bad enough. I really have no desire to discuss Lubos behavior.
ReplyDeleteLubos is a brilliant, haunted, frustrated man.
ReplyDeleteThat's as concise a description as I've ever read of the little expletive deleted. To which I would add he's no better than Limbaugh, Hannity, FOX News/Murdoch, or the entire Bush Misadministration, i.e. and to whit: an OBvious tool of Big Oil. (I would protest Big Oil's actions, but then I'd have to use their products to get to the protest site, so, no.)
After insulting Bee, Lubos actually likes Bee's work and uses it to drive yet another wedge into Lee Smolin's reputation. The difference between Lubos and Lee is that Lee has actually added value to Humanity's knowledge base, and Lubos has taken value away. But Lee's bigger than Lubos, and Lee's attitude is to ignore the little mosquito. After this post, I think I'll adopt Lee's philosophy.
String theory is a mathematically elegant masterwork that has no empirical significance for gravitation.
No all that elegant. More like ad hoc. "Intriguing" Multi-dimensional Pure Mathematical Fantasy would be a better description IMO.
Worse, Uncle Al's proposed experiment in existing apparatus using commercial materials and validated procols could kill it. Do left and right shoes vacuum free fall identically?

So, you've actually DONE the experiment? Or like Neil Bates' idea you're looking for some institution to run it? I will investigate, thanks. Between large and expensive underground colliders and large astronomical observatories lies tabletop experimentation. Much cheaper, but suffering from bad press, as the press likes expensive toys, best. Good luck to you sir.
Lubos is a perfectly reasonable conversationist.
That's what he wants you to believe. Like all "out there" Physicists, he's darn good when discussing the basic, established stuff. E.g., I truly enjoy Susskind's recent video lectures, and Lubos' recent article on Monster group in Group Theory. But Susskind loses me with Anthropic "ships were made to house barnacles" Theory. That's a quote by the late Stephen Jay Gould, one of our species' better minds.
Either agree with him or pin him in the killing jar. Lubos attacks sloppy thought. Re Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory.
And THAT will be Lubos' epitaph? That he was the inspiration for Sheldon? Um, so? Elon Musk was the inspiration for Tony Stark in the Ironman films. The difference between Musk and Motl is simply this: Musk is getting things done.
OK Bee, fine, like I said that will be the last time.
